The 'must-do' cycling routes in the Sierra Nevada

Below we have listed some of our favourite cycling routes in the Sierra Nevada, where all routes start and end at our base but are easily adapted on Strava. The routes are listed according to length, not on preference. Before establishing CSN, we spent many years exploring the region. After much consideration, we felt that Velez would be the perfect base for a cycling business, and purely from a cyclist’s perspective.

Situated in a valley at 100 meters above sea level and only 10km from the coast, Velez has a mild climate in the winter. Most cyclists from the city of Granada drive here to start their rides in the winter. Being nestled in a valley surrounded by mountains means you'll generally start your day with an easy climb and finish each ride with a descent. Unlike the nearby coastal locations with busy roads mainly heading east or west, Velez serves as a nodal point with numerous traffic-free routes and multiple directions to choose from.

As soon as you roll out of the village, you’re straight into the countryside with no time wasted on transfers though busy suburbs or the busier stretches along the coast. If you’re planning on a cycling trip to Andalucia then you should put this part of Southern Spain at the top of your list, regardless if you book with CSN or not.
